Little Grebe
Acrylic 22 x 18 inches. Framed on Winsor and Newton Canvas board
The reference for this painting was a photograph taken by me at Holkham Pines in North Norfolk. We were virtually the last people there as the sun was setting and Little Grebes on one of the few pools there were one of the last things to see in the failing light. I loved the silhouette of what is a a very distinctive bird. The water looked glassy and the colours - various shades of blue and some peachy tones - were perfect. I knew I would paint this at some point. The simplicity of the shapes and colours meant I could have stopped painting quite a while before I got to this point but I think it is better for it. This is framed with a black wooden floating frame which complements the shadow areas of the painting
