Starlings - Spurn Point

I took the photograph this is based on during a trip to Spurn in Autumn 2018. These were sitting in a hawthorn bush and their plumage was just catching the sunlight and showing the amazing petrol colours.
I have incorporated some autumnal tones in amongst the foliage and with the background. The painting is lightly sketched and then built up with washes from light to dark. I finish with some highlights in white gouache and neutral tone shades for the shadows.
